[ translate ]

Marc Davis "It's a Small World" Pair of Concept Drawings (Walt Disney, c. 1963-64). Working in collaboration with his friend and colleague Mary Blair, Disney Legend and Imagineer Marc Davis was tasked with exploring the aesthetic of the "It's a Small World" attraction for the 1964-65 New York World's Fair, which would become the iconic Disneyland attraction one year later. This is a set of two early original drawings by Marc Davis, focusing on pattern, shape, and color with star and sun design motifs. Marc drew significant inspiration from Mary Blair in his concept work for "It's a Small World." On collaborating with Mary Blair, he said, "Mary - I don't think we ever understood until probably she had long left what her real contribution was. She tended to be a rather flat designer. How the rest of us would interpret what she did was a very critical thing. We were always going through a learning process together." These fantastic drawings are rendered in graphite and color pencil, and one features cut paper color swatches. They bear the hand-signed initials "MD" for Marc Davis. Measuring an overall 17" x 12", these drawings show minor studio handling and edge wear, and the condition is Very Good. From the Disney Legend Inductees Marc and Alice Davis Archive.
