[ translate ]

Marc Davis Bullfighter Practicing with Cape/Escamilo Original Casein Painting (Walt Disney, 1950). Marc Davis (1913 – 2000) described this painting as "Inspired by the Italian painter Cherico." Featured in this lot is an absolutely breathtaking piece by the renowned Disney Legend inductee, a skilled character designer who brought Bambi, Thumper, Cruella De Vil, Maleficent, Princess Aurora, and many more to life. He had a great love for bullfighting and explored the subject for decades in various mediums. This beautiful casein painting features an enormous matador with a miniscule bull and measures an impressive 15'' x 19'' in a 21'' x 25'' frame. It must have been a work Mr. Davis loved because he hand-selected it to be in his Art of Marc Davis Exhibit from 12/15/93 to 2/28/94 at the Howard Lowery Gallery, part of the Art of Marc Davis Exhibit from 5/8/09 to 7/26/09 at the Forest Lawn Museum, and part of his Fine Art of Marc Davis portfolio. It can be found on page 20 of the catalog from the first exhibit and page 8 in the catalog for the second. 32 signed giclées were produced from the original work for galleries and museums, but this is the coveted signed and dated original that hung in Marc and Alice Davis's home for years. A catalog has been included as reference. Very Good condition with minor handling wear and small scuffs. All frames are sold as-is. Photos are not representative of actual frame condition.
