Marc Davis Mekeo Dancers Original Painting (Walt Disney, c. 1970s-80s). "The Mekeo dancers are from Inawaia Village, 80 miles west of Port Moresby. Twenty made their first visit to the Mount Hagen Show in 1975." Marc Davis (1913 - 2000) shows his passion for the cultures of Papua New Guinea in this gorgeous original ink and watercolor painting. In Pete Docter and Christopher Merritt's book Marc Davis in His Own Words: Imagineering the Disney Theme Parks - Volume 2, page 732 reads, "[Marc Davis' unpublished book The Bite of the Crocodile] was meant to help preserve the culture of Oceanic art and design as interpreted by Marc and Alice, who had taken a series of trips to Papua New Guinea in the 1970s." This piece was likely created for the project, a beautiful image by the hand of one of the most widely celebrated Disney Legends. The piece is framed under glass with a mat windows size of 8.75" x 12.5" and an overall frame size of 17.25" x 21". All frames are sold as-is. Photos are not representative of actual frame condition. The painting hung in the home of Marc and Alice Davis, and it is signed by the artist. Well preserved in the frame, the piece shows minimal handling, and the condition is Very Good.
