Marcel Breuer - Knoll - Armchair (1) - Wassily Chair
Wassily Knoll armchair. The Wassily Knoll armchair, also known as the B3 seat, was designed by Marcel Breuer for the constructivist painter Wassily Kandinsky. At the time (1925) , both worked at the Bauhaus school in Dessau. This chair was revolutionary in its use of materials (leather and curved nickel-plated steel tubes) and production methods. It is said that Breuer's Adler bicycle inspired him to use steel tubes to build the chair and this proved to be an excellent material. This specimen from the early seventies, in black leather was in a flat in the lagoon of Venice, in good condition, both in leather and in the structure that has in some places normal signs of oxidation, an armrest has a reinforced seam, but only visible from below (see last photo) and the seat has some scratches due to 50 years of use, overall a beautiful preserved specimen Height: 73 cm. Width: 79 cm. Depth: 69 cm.
