Marcel Soyez (b. 1931)
Arbres en Reflets (Trees Reflected), 25 May 1991
Watercolour, with black crayon linework
Dedicated, signed and dated by hand, lower margin: "Pour Y.G. en souvenir de la 1ere exposition a Blanche de Castille", signed "Soyez", dated 91
Dimensions:
Sheet 29.7 × 21 cm (11 ?? × 8 ¼ in.) — Image: nearly the full sheet
Provenance: Livre d'Or de Yves Guerin, compiled 1963–1992 (single-owner provenance). One of the latest sheets in the album, from the collector's early-1990s Poissy circle: it commemorates the artist's first exhibition at the Espace Blanche de Castille in Poissy (Yvelines), on 25 May 1991.
Description: A woodland riverbank — tall slender trunks rising against autumnal foliage in purples, ochres and greens — mirrored in the calm water below, the reflection treated as a shimmering, near-abstract weave of colour, with fluid washes animated by an energetic black crayon line. Marcel Soyez, born in Douai in 1931 and trained at the Academie Charpentier and the Ecole des Metiers d'Art in Paris, is a French figurative painter of the "realite subjective" group and a longtime professor at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Arts Appliques (Chevalier des Palmes Academiques); woods, rocks and still waters, alongside the nude, are his signature subjects — making this sheet entirely characteristic. Signed, dedicated and dated by hand.
Shipping & Packing: Unlike many auction companies, NCAG's offers a full service shipping for flat rate with DHL.
