Born in 1957, Marcello Lo Giudice is an Italian artist fascinated by the materiality of paint, its texture and the colored frequencies emanating from it. The artist confers a certain autonomy to the medium that can now be appreciated for its intrinsic qualities. Painting thus becomes the very subject of the work. This is how the artist develops his most emblematic series, which he intitles "Eden". These monumental works reveal cracks and protruding shapes that confer to the canvas a certain relief.

Eden Primavera produced in 2020 focuses mainly on the treatment of pigments. The paint seems to have been projected with a sudden and spontaneous gesture, leaving traces of runout on the surface. The work is in line with the Arte Informale movement, which advocates above all a gestural, performative and expressionist approach. Moreover, the intensity of the colors mobilized by the artist participates in the dynamism of the composition. The colors are distributed in such a way as to bring out the most vivid pigments in the center of the composition, resulting in an explosive surface. This phenomenon is emphasized by the thickness of the material giving it a real sensitive presence. The artist explains: “The edens are paintings where the purity of color and the energy of light take us back to the first day of creation, to the earthly paradise, uncontaminated by the presence of man: Eden”

Exhibited at the 59th Venice Biennale, this work attests to a culminating period in the artist's career. In 1957 he receives a price in recognition of his talent. It was then that some of his works, including Eden Primavera, were displayed at a major exhibition on the island of San Servolo in Venice.

This masterpiece, from one of the artist's most sought-after series at auction, stands as an archetype of his innovative approach.

Né en 1957, Marcello Lo Giudice est un artiste italien fasciné par la matérialité de la peinture, sa texture ainsi qu’aux fréquences colorées émises par cette dernière. L’artiste confère une certaine autonomie au medium qui peut désormais être apprécié pour ses qualités intrinsèques. La peinture devient ainsi le sujet même de l’œuvre. C’est ainsi que l’artiste développe sa série la plus emblématique qu’il baptise « Eden ». Ces œuvres de grand format laissent entrevoir des fissures ainsi que des formes protubérantes conférant un certain relief à la toile.

Eden Primavera réalisé en 2020 s’articule principalement autour du traitement des pigments. La peinture semble avoir été projetée d’un geste brusque et spontané, laissant sur la surface des traces d’écoulement. L’œuvre s’inscrit alors dans la lignée du mouvement Arte Informale qui prône par-dessus tout une approche gestuelle, performative et expressionniste. Qui plus est, l’intensité des couleurs mobilisées par l’artiste participe au dynamisme de la composition. Ces dernières sont réparties de sorte à faire ressortir les pigments les plus vifs au centre de la composition donnant lieu à une surface explosive. Ce phénomène est exacerbé par l’épaisseur de la matière lui conférant une véritable présence sensible. L’artiste affirme : « Les édens sont des tableaux où la pureté des couleurs et l'énergie de la lumière nous ramènent au premier jour de la création, au paradis terrestre, non contaminé par la présence de l'homme : l'Eden ».

Exposé à la 59ème Biennale de Venise, cette œuvre atteste d’une période culminante dans la carrière de l’artiste. En 1957, ce dernier reçoit un prix en récompense de son talent. C’est alors que certaines de ces œuvres, dont Eden Primavera font l’objet d’une grande exposition sur l’ile de San Servolo à Venise.

Ce chef d’œuvre issu d’une des séries les plus recherchées de l’artiste en ventes aux enchères, est un archétype de l’approche innovante adoptée par ce dernier.
