Nathaniel Marchant studied under Edward Burch. After spending time in Rome, he became a noted engraver of intaglios, medals, and cameos. He also became assistant engraver to the mint, gem sculptor to the Prince of Wales, and engraver to the king. He became a member of the Royal Academy in 1809.
