Signed James Malone ( James Hiram Malone, 1930 - 2011 ) primitive folk art oil on foam core board entitled "Mardi Gras Balcony" painted in the mid-1990's. Depicts a festival girl leaning over a balcony, watching a Mardi Gras parade. James Malone, a versatile & prolific African American artist was a retired graphic artist, cartoonist & writer. He was the founder & director of Laughing Trees, Inc., a non-profit, volunteer oriented organization. Also known for painting the trees on his property ( his "laughing trees" ) in his Grove Park neighborhood, he was a famous fixture in Atlanta's vibrant art community & his works are now collected internationally. James was famous for his use of unconventional materials& recycling frames for his artwork.
