Margaret Rudisill Indiana (1843-1933) Still Life with Fish, 1894 oil on canvas signed and dated Paris '94 lower left. 1/8 inch flake to the paint in top right quadrant. From the Archives of Askart: A reclusive Indiana painter, who cared for her invalid mother, Margaret Rudisill specialized in landscape, figure and genre scenes, having been much influenced with William Merritt Chase, whom she met through her teacher Indiana teacher, Jacob Cox. Rudisill studied at Ladoga Academy in Ladoga, Indiana, at Glendale Female College in Glendale, Ohio; and from 1889 for seven years in Paris at the Académie Julian. In Paris, her instructors were Tony Robert-Fleury and Adolphe-William Bouguereau, and she exhibited at the Paris Salon. Among her exhibition venues were the 1893 Columbian Exposition in Chicago; Richmond, Indiana Art Association Annual Exhibition where she won a silver medal in 1874; and 1904 St. Louis Exposition.
