Marilyn Monroe Personally Owned Mandarin Dress

[ translate ]

Marilyn Monroe Personally Owned Custom Hand Made Mandarin Style Jacquard Dress W/Letter of Authenticity- This stunning piece is a custom designed, hand made Mandarin style jacquard dress, which was personally owned by Marilyn Monroe. The dress was given to Joe Franklin by Monroe, as they were very close friends and both had a fascination with Hollywood nostalgia and memorabilia. Joe Franklin was a radio and television host, and would often ask his famous guests for souvenirs, which is how he acquired much of his collection. According to Joe, Marilyn wore this dress while attending the Actors Studio in New York in the early 1950s, and gave this piece (among many other items) to Joe while she was preparing to vacate her New York City apartment around 1953. The dress was made with an external pink Jacquard fabric shell with an additional inside liner, and has an embroidered trim along the edges. The piece is exceptionally elaborate and exquisite, as every stitch on the external jacquard fabric was done by hand. The seamstress chose to use an abundance of delicate and well hidden mini-snaps and tiny hooks to create a beautiful fabric-flow over Marilyn’s famous curves (this same technique was used in the construction of the famous “Happy Birthday, Mr. President” dress). Measurements (approximate): 41" length, 30" waist, 15" sleeves. There are no labels present. This piece will also include a letter of authenticity from Joe Franklin, who was an American radio and television host personality, author and actor, and whose show featured famous guests such as Andy Warhol, Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe, Salvador Dali, John Lennon and Yoko Ono, and countless others. Joe Franklin knew Marilyn Monroe personally, and co-authored the first biography about Marilyn, titled "The Marilyn Monroe Story".
