Marilyn Monroe/James Dean "The Rose" Limited Edition Signed Print by Peter Nowell #17/100 - This is a limited edition signed print of screen icons Marilyn Monroe and James Dean, titled "The Rose". Just 100 copies were produced from his acrylic oil painting by artist Peter Nowell and this is signed and numbered 17. Nowell is well known for his lifelike paintings of celebrities in addition to The Old West and memorable golf scenes. He uses an unusual under painting technique originating with the early Renaissance Italian muralists, known as "dead" painting, to create his lifelike images. Producing realistic skin tones has proven to be one of the greatest challenges for portrait artists. Using this technique, artists will start will raw umber and yellow ochre, then coat it with shades of white to dark green and black. This creates a feeling that the color will be more transparent when the last skin color is added. Nowell has then digitally embellished his image with a rose and cigarette to create this beautiful portrait of two of the world's most celebrated film legends. Measurements: 16 x 20 inches (image), 22 x 26 inches (framed).
