Mario Bellini - B&B Italia - Armchair, Sofa (6) - Amanta
For Mario Bellini, B&B Italia was a real 'Industry for Design' which offered the then young architect and designer fertile ground for the first highly innovative projects: like Amanta in 1966, the year the company was founded. The solution of the shell separated from the padded part and made of plastic material (for which the company had a 1,500-tonne press) defines the new standard of the new generation seats and indeed transforms a technical element, to be hidden from the eye, into a strongly expressive and characterising element. Amanta is functional item of furniture. Bellini took advantage of the fluid character of the body's plastic to create a sculptural shape, a true symbol. An interesting feature is also the slit along the centre of the back, added to increase stamina without strengthening force. The auction lot consisting of 5 armchairs and a coffee table is has a production dating back to 1976. The shells are dark brown and the upholstery of the cushions is beige. The condition of use is good: the shells and upholstery are good even if they have some signs of age. (Please note the photographs show some matting on the shells that are caused by reflections) . 'Design Radicale' offers insured shipping to Italy and Europe. Shipping costs as indicated. For shipping to the rest of the world, the cost is approximate. We will provide a quote when the auction is finished, depending on the destination.
