Painted circa 1902, when Bauer travelled to Spain with Jo Bauer-Stumpff for the first time on their honeymoon, and made sketches in places such as Toledo.The medieval city of Toledo is built on a hill. In the painting, we can see the River Tagus at the lower left. Spanning it is the old stone bridge, which Bauer painted around 1903 and which is held in the collection of the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, inv. no. SK-A-3572.
