This painting by the well-known artist Marius de Jongere (pseudonym of Martinus Drulman, 1912-1977) dates from his artistic heyday, the fifties and sixties. It was precisely in those years that Rotterdam grew into the largest port city in the world. This painting (charcoal and watercolour on paper) shows the feverish activity of the port.
