Mark Kostabi
Of Estonian origin, Mark Kostabi is a painter and composer born in California in 1960. It is in this region of the United States where he grew up and studied at State University. In 1982, he moved to New York and within two years became a major figure in the East Village art scene. For the past ten years, he has divided his time between New York and Rome. His faceless figures are characteristics of his work. His paintings express the artist's positions on political, social and psychological problems. Giorgio De Chirico and Fernand Léger are two great sources of inspiration, which do not prevent the artist from acting with total freedom and, on the contrary, push him to reinvent himself. Mark Kostabi's work is internationally recognized. In addition to his exhibitions in galleries in the United States, Japan, Germany and Australia, institutions recognize his talent and present his paintings. These include, among others, the Mitsukoshi Museum in Tokyo and the Estonian Art Museum in Tallinn. His works are also part of the permanent collections, such as those of the Guggenheim Museum or the National Gallery of Modern Art in Rome. Mark Kostabi has also been asked to do music album covers for a dozen artists, including the group Guns 'N' Roses.
