Size:Image Size: 90.8 X 60.6 Cm. All Measured Values Are Approximate.

Provenance And Authenticity:The Reverse Of The Canvas Bears A Large Inscription Reading "Mark Rothko" Together With The Date "1969." An Acquavella Galleries, Inc., New York Label Is Affixed To The Central Stretcher Bar, Identifying The Work As "Untitled," Naming Mark Rothko As The Artist, And Recording The Medium As Oil On Canvas. An Additional Paper Inventory Label Is Attached To The Upper Stretcher And Records Dimensions Corresponding Closely With The Present Measurements. The Canvas Remains Mounted On A Substantial Wooden Stretcher With A Horizontal Central Support.

Signature:Mark Rothko

Description:An Abstract Composition Structured Around A Broad Luminous Field Of Warm Yellow And Pale Orange, Interrupted Across The Center By A Horizontal Band Of Soft Rose And Pink. The Principal Color Field Appears To Float Within Irregular Coral-Red Margins That Remain Visible Along The Outer Edges Of The Canvas, Creating A Layered Relationship Between The Central Expanse And Its Surrounding Border. Subtle Variations Of Yellow, Peach, Cream, And Orange Emerge Through Thinly Modulated Paint Passages, Producing An Atmospheric Surface Rather Than A Sharply Defined Geometric Arrangement. The Pink Central Band Is Similarly Softened At Its Boundaries, Allowing The Color To Merge Gradually With The Surrounding Field. The Restrained Configuration And Luminous Palette Create A Contemplative Visual Effect Centered On Color Relationships, Spatial Ambiguity, And Emotional Resonance.

Historical Significance:Mark Rothko Became One Of The Central Figures Associated With Postwar American Abstract Expressionism And Developed A Highly Distinctive Approach Based On Large Areas Of Suspended Color. His Mature Paintings Frequently Employ Softly Edged Rectangular Or Horizontal Zones That Appear To Hover Within Expansive Fields, Emphasizing Perception, Atmosphere, And Emotional Experience Rather Than Representational Imagery. During The 1950S And 1960S, Rothko Increasingly Explored Subtle Relationships Between Adjoining Colors, Using Thin Paint Layers And Softened Boundaries To Create Depth And Luminosity. The Present Composition Reflects This Visual Vocabulary Through Its Simplified Horizontal Organization, Diffuse Edges, And Concentrated Interaction Of Yellow, Orange, Coral, And Pink.

Valuation:Color-Field Paintings Associated With Rothko'S Visual Language Remain Highly Significant Within The Market For Postwar American Abstraction. Compositions With Restrained Geometric Organization, Luminous Tonal Transitions, And Large Uninterrupted Areas Of Color Are Particularly Recognizable Within This Tradition. The Substantial Vertical Format, Reverse Inscription And Date, Acquavella Galleries Label, Additional Stretcher Documentation, And Distinctive Warm Palette Contribute To The Work'S Cataloging And Collecting Interest.

Estimate:Estimate: $6,0000 - $9,0000
