Märklin Gauge 1 GNR No. 2871 Lithographed Tinplate Passenger Coach, Märklin, Germany, a Gauge 1 Great Northern Railway four-wheel passenger coach, catalogue type No. 2871/1, circa 1910–20, of lithographed tinplate construction, the coach body finished in simulated GNR teak brown with fine gilt lining, panel and door detail, lettered 'G.N.R.', 'THIRD' and numbered 2871 to the sides, coach is fitted with a removable/sliding dark-painted curved tinplate roof, black pressed-metal underframe, four substantial metal wheels and early Märklin couplings stamped 'D.R.P.' (Deutsches Reichspatent), length: 250 mm height: 120 mm.* Literature: The No. 2871 series formed part of Märklin's range of British-outline rolling stock produced principally for the export market, including versions in Great Northern Railway and other British company liveries. The GNR examples imitate the company's distinctive varnished teak coaching stock and are amongst the more attractive early British-market Märklin passenger vehicles.
