Pompeii, a Greek colony of the 7th century BC, then dominated by the Etruscans and finally by the Romans and which owes its name to the Gens Pompeia. Destroyed and completely buried under many meters of ash and pumice during the catastrophic eruption of Vesuvius on August 24, 79 AD, which lasted 2 full days, it remained hidden for almost 1700 years before its accidental rediscovery in 1748. Since that time, excavations have reported a detailed snapshot of the life of a city at the time of the Roman Empire has been brought to light. Today, Pompeii is one of Italy's most popular tourist attractions and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Pompeian Red color is well represented in the veined and mother-of-pearl bands of resin that characterize the Gens Pompeia collection. The central band of the shaft, in bronze, reproduces in bas-relief the famous fresco "The Bacchae" found in the Villa dei Misteri of ancient Pompeii. Brass clips and separation rings. A ruby cabochon is set at the top of the cap.
