The oath of office for John A. Murphy as Marshal of the United States for the Western District of Arkansas signed on the 7th of February 1890 by Judge Isaac C. Parker, known as The Hanging Judge.

"I, John A Murphy, do solemnly swear that I faithfully execute all lawful precepts, directed to the Marshal of the United States for the Western District of Arkansas, under the authority of the United States, and true returns make, and in all things well and truly, and without malice or partiality, perform the duties of Deputy Marshal of the Western District of Arkansas during my continuance in said office, and take only my lawful fees, so help me God." Signed "J.A. Murphy". 5 1/2" x 8", framed with both sides visible to 9 3/4" x 12 1/2".
