Painter Henri Martin’s son, Jacques Martin-Ferrières, aka Jac, takes the roofs of Collioure with the Church of Our Lady of the Angels as his subject, treated by juxtaposition of broad touches in brown and ochre hues. The shimmer of the sun animates the intertwining roofs and creates a colourful and shimmering mosaic. Barely sketched, at the top of the hill between Collioure and Port-Vendres we can see Fort Saint-Elme. A pupil of Cormon and his father Henri Martin, he exhibited southern France and Venice landscapes at the Salon. He got the National Prize in 1925, and in 1928 the Gold Medal and the Legay-Lebrun Prize (Institute Award) .
