Martin Leman, British 1934 – Boy with Model House, 1986; oil on canvas, signed and dated bottom right 'Martin Leman 86', 102 x 76.5 cm (ARR) Provenance: The Geoffrey and Fay Elliot collection. Rona Gallery, London; private collection, purchased from the above in 1998; thence by descent Note: Martin Leman is celebrated for his naïve and gently surrealist style reminiscent of Henri Rousseau. He is particularly known for his paintings of cats and the numerous illustrated books he has made, including 'Comic and Curious Cats' which featured a text by Angela Carter, making him a natural heir to Louis Wain.
Held in a wooden frame, with minor scuff marks. Craquelure bottom right corner and top left corner. There are two raised diagonal bands of canvas in the top right corner, with associated craquelure and staining to the reverse of the canvas. Painted surface in otherwise good condition. Unlined.
