Autograph endorsement signed â€Å“M. Van Buren,â€Â on the reverse of a manuscript document, one page, 8 x 7, March 12, 1841. Van Buren writes, in part: â€Å“I constituteâ€Â¦my attorney to receive paymentsâ€Â¦according to its tenorâ€Â¦and owe the same on the due Billâ€Â¦left in his hands for that purpose.â€Â The document on the opposite side, signed by Senator Robert J. Walker, in part: â€Å“Pay to the order of his Excy. Martin Van Buren nineteen hundred dollars with interestâ€Â¦for a balance due by me to Mr. Van Buren for furnitureâ€Â¦the payment to be made by you as Secretary of the Senate out of my per diem as a Senator.â€Â In fine condition, with a small split along one of the intersecting folds. Van Buren had left the White House just a week before the March 12th date of this document.
