Martin van Wordrageren (1928-2011)

He exhibited with Appel, Corneille and Alechinsky, among others. Van Wordrager died on 23-08-2011 at the age of 83.
Martin van Wordrager had a traditional classical education, so he was forced to paint lifelike scenes for many years. The young Martin was not happy with that. He had now become acquainted with the Cobra movement and it touched him deeply. This was The Style he wanted; this was painting from the heart. To broaden his knowledge, he frequently visited museums and exhibitions.

Van Wordrageren has become known for his striking works with a style that is a combination of Cobra and Flemish Expressionism. He met Constant Permeke, which caused him to develop an interest in Flemish Expressionism. The combination of this painter's style and Cobra art form the Martin van Wordrageren as we know him and this combination can be seen in many of his paintings.
