Marwood East India Windus Pattern flintlock musket
A 1806 William Marwood, London East India Windus Pattern Brown Bess flintlock musket, .75 Caliber. 39" barrel with Birmingham proofs. Lock plate marked "MARWOOD" behind hammer and East India Company's mark and date 1806. Walnut full length stock. Marked "WRW" on wrist on left side of stock. Brass fixtures and steel ramrod. 55" overall. Condition: Very Good condition. Dark patina on metal, cleaned. Pitting near flash hole on barrel. Heavy wear on wood stock. Missing retaining pins with heavy wear around holes. Missing sling swivels. Scuffs on barrel. Action slightly separating from stock. Break in tail of trigger guard.Provenance:D.F. Harding in "An Introduction to East India Company Smallarms C1775-1851" states on East India Co. small arms that Birmingham proofs were only found on Irregular Cavalry arms. So this musket was possibly one of the 117,640 purchased by the by the Board of Ordnance between 1794-1813 and later rearsenalled.
