Mary Blair (1911-1978)

[ translate ]

Mary Blair Cinderella Ball Concept/Color Key Painting (Walt Disney, 1950). "...Suddenly he stops. He looks up. For, lo, there she stands. The girl of his dreams. Who she is or whence she came, he knows not, nor does he care. For his heart tells him that here, here is the maid predestined to be his bride." Cinderella arrives at the ball in this incredible original concept/color key painting by none other than Disney Legend Mary Blair (1911 - 1978). This piece is most closely reflected at the 50:28 mark of Walt Disney's definitive classic Cinderella, with the flanking crowd of attendees replaced by Cinderella's jealous stepsisters. Mary Blair contrasts Cinderella with the rest of the painting, a bold stroke of white, centrally framed, distinguishing her from the foregrounded crowd depicted in drab shades of gray. In minimal strokes of gouache, Mary Blair achieves significant depth and narrative drama on a 10" x 9.5" piece of illustration board. A similar image can be seen in the book Walt Disney's Cinderella, retold by Cynthia Rylant using original concept work by Mary Blair. The painting shows minor handling and edge wear with pinholes in the corners, and the condition is Very Good. HID09710052018 © 2024 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
