Mary Cassatt (1844 - 1926). Woman Seated in a Loge (Au Theatre). Lithograph on wove paper. Year: c. 1880 Edition:Rare, see additional notes. Dimensions: Plate size 5 x 5 7/8 inches. Framed dimensions: Approximately 15 x 15 7/8 inches. Framing: This piece has been professionally matted and framed using all new materials. Additional notes: Another example of this lithograph can be seen at the Van Gogh Museum, Netherlands. According to them "In the Theatre (c. 1880) is the result of Cassatt’s early experiments with lithography. The print shows a woman in a loge viewing the auditorium through opera glasses, but the woman herself is being watched by the rest of the audience. Only a handful of prints of this work are known to exist." Another example of this lithograph with a persoanl note to scott avery explaining that this was an early attempt at lithograph was exhibited as part of the exhibition Mary Cassatt: Modern Women (10 October 1998 - 10 January 1999 Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago; 14 February 1999 - 9 May 1999 Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; 6 June 1999 - 6 September 1999 National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.)
