Large antelope crest mask - KWELE - Gabon For the record, the Kwele live in the rainforest in northeastern Gabon. Their masks are famous and sought after for their plastic beauty. This one is rarer than the usual antelope mask and similar to that of the Dapper Museum (see the last photo) . Beautiful construction, well paced in its vertical elements, giving it a lot of dynamism. Its stylization and slanted white eyes recall the symbolic relationship with the vital forces of the afterlife and the spirit world. Very rare model.
