Mask (1) - Wood - Luba, Kifwebe(Songye)mask. - Congo

Very fine and well-balanced Luba mask of the Kifwebe variety. The almost square-cornered oblong box-like shape with very fine striation-patterns. The pierced eyes under a domed forehead. The long tubular mouth mirroring the position of the carved nose that starts almost on top of the skull. Sunken rim with the entire perimeter perforated with holes for attaching the dance costume. Well used and impressive example of this cubistic mask style. Dimensions\t: 45x 27w x 27d cm.
