Mask - Wood - Dogon - Mali
This design, driven to the extreme of abstraction, is a wonderful example of DOGON Art. This is probably the representation of the crocodile; who was worshipped to seek protection from the " Nyama " water spirits. Ex. German private collection, Frankfurt. Ex. Privé coll. Nivelles , Belgique. Very hard wood type. Black libation patina. Wear and tear on the whole. Large crack of old age at the top in the back. 4 attachment holes for the coiffure. Two larger holes for a small wooden rod (bite rod) . Some scattered insect damage. Dry inside with dripping traces of libation moisture. Broken off wood pieces to the rear edge. Will be sent with track & trace.
