Massive Woolly Mammoth Tusk Mammuthus Primigenuis
Large petrified mammoth (mammuthus primigenius) tusk fossil, dating from the Pleistocene. With wooden stand.
This is a fine example of an Ice Age mammoth tusk. Its enormous size--if complete, the tusk would have measured around 13 to 14 ft long--and stunning blue vivianite mineralization set this tusk apart.
Deaccessioned from the University of Alaska Museum of the North, Fairbanks, AK, and given to Joseph T. Flakne. Possibly collected by Otto W. Geist (1888-1963) who was commissioned in 1926 to collect Pleistocene fossils and artifacts for the museum.SKU: 02030Follow us on Instagram: @revereauctions
