Malgrado il titolo di Appendice, la presente opera è da considerare a sé stante: il Ruffini aveva infatti dato alla luce il Corso di Matematica in 4 volumi ad uso della Scuola di Artiglieria e Genio in Modena, all'interno del quale stava la trattazione dell'Algebra. In un secondo tempo pensò di pubblicare questa Appendice, dedicata alle prime applicazioni dell'Algebra alla Geometria, prima omessa, mentre avrebbe dovuto apparire prima del IV tomo. Paolo Ruffini 1765-1822), di origine viterbese, si laureò a Modena e legò la sua attività di insegnamento universitario a questa città, soprattutto attraverso la Scuola di Artiglieria e Genio, ove insegnò dal 1798 al 1814.

Despite the title of Appendix, this work is to be considered in its own right: Ruffini had in fact given birth to the Mathematics Course in 4 volumes for use by the School of Artillery and Engineers in Modena, within which was the discussion of 'Algebra. Later he thought of publishing this Appendix, dedicated to the first applications of Algebra to Geometry, first omitted, while it should have appeared before the fourth tome. Paolo Ruffini (1765-1822), from Viterbo, graduated in Modena and linked his university teaching activity to this city, especially through the School of Artillery and Engineers, where he taught from 1798 to 1814.
