\Artist: Mathias de Sallieth (1749-1791) , Jacobus Perkois (1756-1804) , Johannes Huibert Prins (1757-1806)
Technique: Etching\Signature: Not signed\Dimensions: 33_21_1_cm
Bundle consisting of 33 rare costume prints and the accompanying title page. Bound in the original publisher's cover. Series title: Collection of various dressed male and female positions: for the exercise of young painters and enthusiasts, drawn from life by the art illustrators Perkois and Prins, and engraved in copper by the art engraver M. de Sallieth. Published in Rotterdam by J. Immerzeel Jr. in 1818. A very rare series of lively costume prints from all walks of life. The series was drawn in the second half of the 18th century by the artists Jacobus Perkois (1756-1804) and Johannes Huibert Prins (1757-1806) . The prints were then artfully engraved in etching and aquatint by the well-known artist Mathias de Sallieth (1749-1791) . What is special about this series is that it concerns all ordinary citizens from Middelburg and the surrounding area, where Perkois and Sallieth were working when they made this series. Both the drawing and the prints were made in the 18th century. However, the series was only printed - posthumously - in 1818 and published by Immerzeel in Rotterdam. Here in the rare first edition. The prints are bound in the printer's original cover. The prints are in good condition. Nice and sharp prints on paper with wide margins and uncut edges. The binding is jaded, the back has been reinforced in the past. Sometimes the paper is slightly dirty, with some small tears along the edges. A print with a part margin shortage. A print with frayed edges. See also the photos. A photo is included of each print. Secured shipment.
