Matilde Poulat Virgin of Los Remedios Silver and Bone

DESCRIPTION: Highly decorated, sterling Marian icon of the Virgin of Los Remedios by Matilde Poulat. Piece depicts the Virgin in flowing garb intricately decorated with turquoise, coral, and amethyst insets; raised avian, foliage, and floral designs; etched avian and foliage designs; raised curvilinear and braided designs; and a carved bone face. She bears a crown with ornate curvilinear embellishments and turquoise insets, and she has a halo with turquoise, coral, and amethyst insets and curvilinear embellishments. Reticulated areas between her dress and her halo are decorated with turquoise insets. She rests on a base of silver decorated with turquoise insets and meandering linear and arched designs. Marks on reverse side: "Matl", "Matl", "MS-12" and "MATL M. REGIS 14-2093 MEXICO 925". Total weight: 248g.
