Matthieu Gicquel et Gaëtan Didier - Stool - Cavité

[ translate ]

The "Cavité" stool is a dialogue with Gaëtan Didier, a designer who seeks to explore new processes in craftsmanship. The textured glass, specific to my productions, sculpts the bases and becomes functional. The folding of the shape generates a visual effect which shrouds the regard and suggest the feeling you can have within a cave. The conclusion, after reading "Eloge de L’Ombre" is clear: Matthieu Gicquel will move towards something simpler, more sincere. The glass is textured, why would we want to change it, modify it? Perhaps the intrinsic beauty of an almost "raw" object has as much magnetism as a "purer" object. Matthieu Gicquel chooses the plaster to bring texture to his glass, to imprint an endlessly random shape, but always unique to his pieces. He implements his willingness which goes beyond creation. The strength of his creations does not lie so much in their substance, but rather in the approach that underlies them. Gradually, the technique asserts itself, the "Yuugen" texture is born in 900°. Glass is textured, alive and real. Here, left and right, the concept and the object come together. Wabi-Sabi is reinventing itself, so is glass.
