Max Le Verrier - Demarco - Sculpture, Boogschutter (Atalante) - Art deco - 77 cm - patinated metal and stone - 1930
A very dynamic, beautifully stylized Art Deco sculpture of the king's daughter Atalante using her bow.
Large size, rare.
Height: 77 cm (from base to top arch)
Signed: Demarco
The story:
The sculpture 'Atalante' is derived from the Greek mythological story about a king's daughter who wanted to become better at fighting than a man because her father would have preferred a son instead of a daughter.
It soon became apparent that Atalante was an agile huntress, and very fast. She wanted to compete with the men: she had to, and would, be faster! The men were amazed. Atalante later proved himself by killing centaurs with two swift arrows.
Condition: excellent.
As shown in the photos, the bow can be disassembled so that it can be safely packed.
