Maya Mollusk Shell Intricate Incised Details

Pre-Columbian, southern Mexico to Guatemala, Maya, Late Classic Period, ca. 550 to 900 CE. A beautiful pendant fashioned from the shell of a large spiral mollusk that bears finely preserved registers of incised geometric motifs. The shell body exhibits smooth white and beige hues as well as shades of coral and grapefruit along the narrow tip and creates an attractive chromatic array. The exterior surfaces are adorned with registers of ovals and circular forms enclosed with straight and diagonal striations that course along each spiraling area, and a pair of drilled suspension loops are situated above the flared bottom rim. Size: 7.1" L x 2.9" W (18 cm x 7.4 cm); 4.75" H (12.1 cm) on included custom stand.
