Maya Polychrome Vessel w/ Glyph Band

Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico to Guatemala, Mayan Territories, Maya, Late Classic Period, ca. 550 to 800 CE. A pretty round bowl with a slightly corseted neck and a band of glyphs or pseudo-glyphs painted around that corseted area. The lower body is painted with thick vertical stripes of red that give it a melon-like appearance. Size: 6" W x 4.3" H (15.2 cm x 10.9 cm)

Provenance: private Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA collection, purchased from a US collection in 2015; originally collected in the 1940s in Tiquisate, Guatemala
