McCarthy, Cormac
Two first editions

Child of God. London: Chatto & Windus, 1975. 8vo (203 x 126 mm). Publisher's black cloth, spine gilt lettered, in pictorial dustjacket; spotting to top edge and to head of jacket flaps, otherwise pristine. In black slipcase with folding chemise. — Suttree. New York: Random House, 1979. 8vo (213 x 143 mm). Publisher's black cloth over tan boards, spine and upper board gilt lettered, in printed dustjacket with photographic portrait of the author on rear panel; very light browning to endpapers. In black slipcase with folding chemise.

First editions of the author's third and fourth novels. Both set in Tennessee, the novels established McCarthy's abiding interest in extreme isolation and desperation. Jerome Charyn said of Suttree in 1979, that it "gives us a sense of river life that reads like a doomed 'Huckleberry Finn.'" Fresh, bright copies of two of McCarthy's essential titles.
