Medals (10) of PM/X 766463 Petty Officer Ian Andrew Oliver Fensome B.E.M. R.N. British Empire Medal, 1939-1945 Star, Atlantic Star (France & Germany Clasp), Africa Star, Burma Star (Pacific Clasp), War Medal 1939-1945, Korea Medal, UN Medal, ERII Coronation Medal, GV Long Service & Good Conduct Medal. Sold with photographs and service papers. Enlisted as a Boy on 18th October 1932 and attended HMS St. Vincent until posted to HMS Terror. At the outbreak of the Second World War he was serving as a Leading Seaman aboard the battleship HMS Nelson. Quickly earmarked for advancement, he was posted to the torpedo school HMS Vernon and promoted to Acting Petty Officer, later joining the new battleship HMS King George V. He was aboard her when she fought and sank the German Battleship Bismark. Posted to HMS Enterprise in June 1943, he remained aboard until the beginning of September 1944, when he returned to HMS Vernon. As the Royal Navy prepared to new Pacific Fleet for action against the Japanese, he was drafted to HMS Lanka (Ceylon) and then on to HMS Wager, a destroyer working up with the Eastern Fleet, and finally attached to HMS Highflyer (W/T Station Ceylon). Retrained postwar as an electrician, he saw service aboard HMS Scorpion and in the Japanese Sea off the coast of Korea aboard the destroyer HMS Comus. He was discharged to pension on 29th November 1955.
