William Gordon White. 1/4th Oxford & Bucks. L.I. D-O-W 20th December 1916. Born Lydford Devon’, good very fine (4) £140-£180---Sidney Thomas White was born in Truro, Cornwall, and attested for the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry at Falmouth, Cornwall. He served with the 1st/1st Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front from 1916, and was killed in action on the Somme on 23 August 1916. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, France.William George White, brother of the above, was born in Lydford, Devon, and attested for the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry at Falmouth, Cornwall. He served with the 1st/4th Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front, and died of wounds on 20 December 1916.
