Medieval European Pewter, Brass & Pottery (18 pcs)

Western Europe, England, France, & Germany, ca. 13th to 18th century CE. A large collection of 18 pilgrimage and livery badges, pendants, crucifix, a pitted tailor thimble, and other items made from pewter, iron, brass, pottery, and a combination of lead alloys. Some highlights in this lot include a late medieval tailor thimble, open topped for pushing with the side of the finger and intentionally large for wearing on the middle finger, a pilgrim badge of Saint Catherine's Wheel, a miniature leaded bronze dog with a slit base - perhaps a finial to a tool, 2 near identical pottery Virgin Mary and infant Christ impressed into a rectangular pendant, and 2 brass pendants with Lombardic letters. Size (thimble): 0.85" Diameter x 0.5" W (2.2 cm x 1.3 cm); (largest Virgin Mary pottery pendant): 1" L x 1.65" W (2.5 cm x 4.2 cm)

Provenance: ex-estate of Eldert Bontekoe, Pegasi Numismatics, Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA acquired before 2000
