LARGE PORCELAIN FIGURINE OF A FISHER.

Meissen.
Date: Ca. 1900.
Maker/Designer: Draft Hermann Hultzsch, 1882-1885.
Technique: Porcelain, enriched in colours, sparcely painted in gold.
Description: On round base that is adorned with fish and decorative tridents a young fisherman in
antiwue garments who is carrying a fishing net on his right shoulder and is carrying a
basket with carps in his left. On his curly hair a straw hat.
Measurement: Height 53cm.
Mark: Swords mark, painted blue under glaze. Model number N146, porcelain former's number 48.

The figurine of the "Fischer mit Netz" by the Manufaktur Meissen that was originally limited to 25 copies features a young fisherman and the moment of his return of home. The conceptualisation of the figurine can be attributed to the artist Hermann Hultzsch (1837-1905) and took place in 1855.
The fisherman is characterised by a calm, almost gentle depiction. His corporeal dynamics is reduced and lets him appear resting - almost pausing. The pastel-coloured "staffage" underlines the composition.
The "Fischer mit Netz" masterfully unites the characteristics of the gracious and gentle expression that are typical of Herrmann Hultzsch's design.
