Remnants of an adhesive label verso. Oil auf panel. 92.5 x 84 cm. Cradling, restored, damaged. Minor damage to frame (98 x 90 cm).
According to friendly information from Dr Anna Moraht-Fromm, Berlin, the present painting is a work by the "Master of the Blaubeuren Crucifixion". This master - whose name is still unknown - was a member of the Strigel workshop in Memmingen. In the older literature, he is also referred to with the nickname "Altgeselle". He worked closely with Bernhard Strigel, also in Blaubeuren.
provenance: according to the information given by the previous owners, acquired from the art dealer Rudolf Sturm. - Collection of Hans Constantin Faußner, Munich.
