Mendelssohn Signed Letter.
MENDELSSOHN, FELIX. 1809-1847. A two-page, single onionskin sheet autograph letter signed, in German, dated Leipzig, 18 July 1840. Written in ink and addressed "Esteemed Sir"; signed at close of letter verso. 8 1/2" x 5 1/4". Mendelssohn writes asking that his thanks be extended to Prof. Gordigiani for the pleasure of perusing his Stabat Mater, that it is a highly interesting work that must be most effective in a church, and therefore he regrets that a performance in their concerts is impossible. He writes further of Marschner's upcoming subscription concerts and the artists, and that he hopes they can obtain tenor Mr. Schmidt's participation. Condition: overall good; toned, fold creases, fold tear at top edge, small tears/creases to corners; old dealer pencil notations to top front and verso.
