Mercedes-Benz - 220 S Ponton (W180) Cabriolet 2.2L - NO RESERVE - 1957

Do not miss this opportunity and become the new owner of this very unique Mercedes Convertible! This is a NO RESERVE PRICE AUCTION. The Ponton was Daimler-Benz's first all new Mercedes-Benz series of passenger cars after the Second World War. In July 1953, these cars replaced the pre-war designed Type 170 series. The nickname comes from the German word for "ponton" and refers to a definition of pontoon fenders - and a post-war styling trend which later took the name pontoon styling. The 220S made its debut in Frankfurt in 1956 as the pinnacle of a new range of cars. The 220S shared a strong family resemblance to the sporty 190SL and the mighty 300SL. However, unlike those special two-seaters, the 220S was hand-built to carry passengers in luxury on a daily basis. Mercedes built only 1,066 convertibles in 1957. As attractive as this Mercedes-Benz was (and is) mechanically, it is the complete styling package, the drive train and the interior features that make the 220S the standard with which all other European six-cylinder cars from the 1950s are compared and judged. Of the 220S convertibles, only a small number remains today. This makes the Mercedes Ponton 220S convertible a very unique collector's item. This car is in excellent condition since the recently completed restoration. Restored to a very high standard in America (for over $36,000 between 2018 and the present, of which all invoices are present) . Completely checked, bumper to bumper, and perfected. In addition, the Ponton was given a new coat of paint in the Netherlands last month. Besides the fact that the exterior has been addressed completely, the engine, gearbox, brakes, dual Solex carburettors, fuel lines / tank, radiator, electrical system have been fully checked / restored. The car has only driven 125 miles after the restoration. Extensive documentation of the restoration is available. Perfect for a collection because of its good condition, but also to enjoy driving. Guaranteed value stability with the potential for appreciation, especially for a car in this condition with such low production numbers. So don't wait too long and seize this opportunity to become the owner of this beautiful classic, a dream come true for the Mercedes enthusiast.
