Mercedes-Benz - 280 SL - 1983
Renowned for being a reliable and solidly built touring convertible, the Mercedes R107 SL series is a highly sought-after collector's vehicle whose values remain consistent and strong. This 1983 example offers all the well-known virtues of the model: elegant and sober lines, a comfortable interior, a spacious trunk and an easy driving style. An R107 could almost be used as an everyday car.
The 280 SL is equipped with a proven and very reliable six-cylinder engine from Mercedes. Its performance is more than sufficient to travel across Europe, and above all it is much cheaper at the pump than the V8.
Of European origin (it is not an American version with a deflated engine) , my model was the subject of a careful restoration in 2021 and 2022. Paint, upholstery, convertible top were redone. The 6 floors and crosspieces have been changed and are new. The bottoms are therefore very healthy again. The engine and braking system were also overhauled, and the steering ball joints and tires were changed. This made it possible to obtain zero defects in the last technical inspection which remains valid until December 2027. The professionally carried out restoration represents an investment of more than 20,000 euros.
The car starts, drives and brakes very well. The gears shift very well too. It is therefore very pleasant to cruise with your elbow to the door. The car radio is present but the security code is missing. And the air conditioning, also present, needs to be recharged, but is it really useful on a convertible? Maintenance log since 2007.
In summary, this is a fine example of a classic collector's vehicle which no longer has its wrinkles following the numerous restoration work carried out. Its future owner will benefit from all the qualities of the SL: classic elegance accompanied by refined handling, while benefiting from the fuel economy and reduced maintenance costs of the six-cylinder engine.
