Merchants
Oil on canvas
46x36 cm in 77x67 frame
Work of the Northern European School.
The painting belongs to the "nightlight painting" genre, a particular type of Baroque painting in which a scene within an enclosed space is illuminated only by the light of one or more candles. In our painting, the central lantern reveals the profiles of the two merchants and, at the same time, makes their jewels sparkle.
