Mesopotamian Pottery Relief Panel - Striding Male

Ancient Near East, Mesopotamia, ca. late 3rd to early 2nd millennium BCE. A mold-formed earthenware relief panel depicting a nude, right-facing male figure. He boasts a dramatic striding pose with his left leg extended beneath a slender waist, with one arm held to his muscular chest and the other hanging at his side, and rounded shoulders tapering inward to a thick neck. The bald, rounded head displays a minimalist countenance comprised of a single almond-shaped eye, a perky nose, thin lips, and a finely-formed chin. His stature denotes a classic warrior's pose, however it could also be indicative of a craftsman or a builder. Traces of original white and pink pigment suggest this panel was at one time decorated with vivid colors. Custom museum-quality display stand included. Condition Report: Repaired from multiple large pieces with small chips, earthen stabilization material, and light adhesive residue along break lines. Small chips to figure, peripheries, and verso, with softening to some finer details, and light encrustations. Nice earthen deposits throughout. Faint traces of original pigmentation across obverse side.
