Mesopotamian Stone Pendant Nude Figural

Ancient Near East, Mesopotamia, Sumerian, ca. 2500 to 2200 BCE. A hand-carved stone pendant in the form of a nude figure presenting a stylized, minimalist form with arms folded at abdomen. Pierced at the head for suspension, the ancient figure displays drilled, target-motif eyes, a petite mouth, and a jutting chin, all flanked by a huge pair of ears. Delineated nipples embellish the chest, while the verso of the figure is flat. Size (figure): 0.3" W x 1.1" H (0.8 cm x 2.8 cm); (case): 1.8" Diameter (4.6 cm)

Provenance: ex-John B. Kendrick II collection, Denver, Colorado, USA, acquired 1965 to 1990; John B. Kendrick II was that son of John B. Kendrick, former Wyoming Governor and US Senator in 1930s
