A 19th century Mexican Altar & "La Cruz de Las Animas" (Cross of Souls). Pine Altar with segmented circular top beneath a wooden cross supported by four turned columns on a square dovetailed base in worn gray paint; Pine crucifix with hand painted polychrome decoration featuring the Holy Trinity, the sun and moon, implements of the Passion, the Sorrowful Madonna, Adam and Eve, and the Archangel Michael weighing the souls in Purgatory. Some surface wear, particularly to the Altar, some chipping/losses of wood and paint on the crucifix. 49" high overall, the Cross is 19 3/4" high on its own. ESTIMATE $2,000-3,000
